Was I Ever That Young?

The arrival of 20 or so new kids in the office got me wondering, was I ever that young? I mean, these 20-something kids are really look so young, like they just graduated from high school, not college. They're still in their tight jeans and tee shirt, when I'm already in my cotton pants and button down shirt. Wow, look at me looking so sharp in heels while these kids is still wearing sneakers.

But new kids mean new spirit. Well, that's the hope. New kids, fresh ideas, faster, smarter worker. For that, I don't know just yet. Even though some editors already complaint bout some young journo being lazy or tardy.

Remembering eight years ago, I was them. The new kids. I guess I wore jeans and tee too, and sneakers. I don't really remember that. What I do remember that I was so eager to be a journalist, to go out there, finding stories, to write. I was fearless. Or something like that.

Woke up early in the morning to go buy morning papers. Eating breakfast while reading the papers. Assembling supply for the day, writing down ideas for writings. Going to the office also early (compared to today) to go to the library to read the rest of morning papers, the one you didn't buy and to read weekly magazines too. Sometimes when I remember that, I'm amazed with myself. I did have so much energy, where is it now?

Spend some times chatting with coworkers, sharing ideas and see if there's a chance for a collaboration to make the story more interesting. Ha, that one goes missing too, I guess. When you get older, you start to do things by yourself. But being a senior journalist, I already responsible to certain beats so sometimes, you don't really have time to meet your coworkers.

Memories.. of eight years ago.. :)
